Dr. Emily Wood graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University in 2002. After practicing in Topeka and Manhattan, Kansas, and Carbondale, Illinois, she began practicing at VSL in 2012. She has been the owner of VSL since 2015. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Wood lives in Okawville, Illinois, with her husband Eric and their two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys cheering for her daughters’ sports teams, biking, gardening, and reading. She also enjoys playing flute with a local community band and handbells with a local handbell ensemble.
Kelly Prange, CVT is a 1999 graduate of Parkland College. Kelly began working at VSL immediately following graduation. From a very early age, Kelly knew that she wanted to work with animals. She was very excited to be able to turn her passion into a rewarding career. During her ongoing CE, Kelly gets to learn about many new topics, but has found she has a special interest in preventative medicine. She enjoys teaching pet parents ways to help their fur babies live longer and healthier lives. She and her husband, Bret, reside in Aviston, IL with their Shih-Tzu, Kneesa. During her free time, Kelly enjoys reading, cooking, and spending quality time with her family.
Melissa Detmer graduated from Kaskaskia College with an Associate degree in Animal Science. Melissa started working at Veterinary Services, LTD in April 2008. She grew up on a dairy farm in New Baden, IL. That is where she got her love of animals. Melissa loves milking cows at her sister’s farm anytime she can get out there. Melissa loves being outdoors and doing arts and crafts, especially with her kids. Melissa resides in Breese, IL with her husband Matthew, son Ian, and three daughters Rylee, Skyler, and Willow. They have 2 cats Lola and Octavia, and one dog Midas.
Melissa Randle graduated from Murray State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, and an Animal Health Technology Major. Melissa joined VSL in January 2018. In her free time, Melissa enjoys running, being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. Melissa and her husband Danny currently reside in St. Libory, IL with their two cats, Rev and Lulu, and their two Labrador retrievers, Dozer and Remington.
Madison VanNess grew up in Clinton County, and she moved to southwest Mississippi following high school graduation in 2017. She attended community college and obtained an associate’s in general studies in 2019. While down south, Madison discovered a passion for animal welfare and rescue work, especially bottle-feeding kittens. She has helped rescue hundreds of animals, she also served on the board of directors for a nonprofit animal shelter, and is a fierce advocate for spay and neuter.
Madison moved back to Clinton County in February of 2023 and joined VSL in December of the same year. She lives in Beckemeyer with her fiancé, Terry, their two dogs, six cats, and two ball pythons. During her free time, Madison enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her family and many pets.
Vance Wood started working at VSL at an early age. He left for a few years, entering the United States Coast Guard, and attending college. He returned to VSL in 1986. He has held many positions during his employment at VSL; presently he is the Hospital Administrator. He currently resides in Breese, IL with his wife, Kelly.
